Zumba For MS 2012
Multiple sclerosis stops people from moving, but in a defiant response, one Walk MS team is doing just the opposite. The G TEAM: Good People, Doing Good Things, is hosting its second annual Zumba for MS fundraiser for the 2012 Travelers Walk MS, presented by North American Power.
Join us at The Zumba for MS on Sunday, February 26, 2012 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at 1691 Café/Lounge in Bridgeport. Can't make it to the event but would like to donate please go to our team page. Any donation is welcomed.
Fundraising event for Multiple Sclerosis hosted by The G Team: Good People, Doing Good Things. Proceeds will go to benefit the Connecticut MS Society. We are moving for those who can't. Help shake it for a cause. The cost for the event is a $20 donation to the G TEAM's Walk MS fundraising efforts; includes Zumba instruction from area certified Zumba instructors: Diana Figueroa, Heatherly Law, Nina Merlonghi, Elisa Irizarry, Jackie Vasquez and Gabby Molina. Refreshments and raffle/silent auction to follow. Everyone welcomed, no experience necessary. For purchasing ticket/wristbands or more information on the Zumba for MS fundraising event, contact Cynthia at gteammswalk@yahoo.com. Also you can go to 1691 Café/Lounge at 1691 Main Street, Bridgeport, or call 203-908-3853 to register in advance.
We are doing the Zumba event again because what better way to keep people moving than by moving to music. We had a great response last year and are excited to have the opportunity to host it again this year. We are moving for those who can't. The event begins with a quick demo on basic Zumba steps and modification moves. Each instructor will then lead 20 to 30 minutes sets. At the end of the workout there will be refreshments and a drawing for prizes. The great thing about Zumba is that it can be modified to fit any level. As long as you can move some part of your body you can do it. Last year we had a few people with MS join us and everyone was able to participate at their own pace.
We started the G TEAM in 2007 after my husband Eddie was diagnosed with MS, so this will mark our fifth year participating in Walk MS and we really want to make it an exciting year. Our goal each year is to have a good time, and the more the merrier. We hope to continue to have more people join us for years to come. Feel free to like us on Facebook.
Last year, the 35-member G TEAM: Good People, Doing Good Things walk team raised $3,840 total for the 2011 Travelers Walk MS in West Haven at West Haven High School. The 2012 Travelers Walk MS, presented by North American Power, will step out from 12 sites statewide on Sunday, April 22.
Let's Move Forward Together
Currently there is no cure for MS. The money that is raised will be used to find the cause, treatment, and ultimately the cure of multiple sclerosis. The money is also used to provide education, information, direct financial support, and scholarships to individuals and families living with MS.
Please join us in the movement to do something about multiple sclerosis now!

2010 MS Walk, Westport CT
The G Team celebrated it's third year in the walk. Third time was a charm. I made it a personal goal to have a big team. We had a great turn out of family and friends. Eddie and I are so blessed to have everyone who joined us and donated to our team. The G Team was able to raise $3199 for the MS Walk. This year we were more determined to get out there. The MS Society in Connecticut has been a great help to us. When we had questions they are easy to contact and try their best to help or forward information. I know there are some other chapters that don't have great reviews. Eddie was able to have the CCSVI procedure in April and is doing well. We had to go to New York for it, but since we are so close to NY it wasn't too bad. Some people have traveled several miles to find relief. We have seen improvement and we are blessed. They are small improvements but to us they are big.
Ed felt great after the walk this year. Last year he was exhausted by the time he crossed the finish line. This year he had so much energy. Running around after our 4 year old son. Circulating and talking to people. We were the first team to get to the walk and the last few people to leave the park. We did the walk to prove CCSVI is valid and works and to support the research and people with MS in our state. We were lucky to meet others that want the same thing.

May 2009, MS Walk
The following year in May of 2009 we got our little team together and took on the walk again. We were still learning about MS. We had gone through two medications that didn't seem to work. Leaving Ed ill and tired all the time. We had one relapse which required a steroid treatment which was a bear to handle. But we managed to make it through and walk again. Our team raise $1185 that year. We were still small but our goal was to enjoy the day and do the best we could. We enjoyed the walk at Sherwood Island in Westport, CT. The day was bright and gave us new found hope for the following year. Now that we have found our stride, we decided to take the next step. The following year work towards a larger team. Have a presence. We had a year to prepare.

The G Team start
The G Team, Good People, Doing Good Things, started three years ago after my husband was diagnosed with MS. We decided that we were not going to sit back and watch this disease progress without doing something. from what we read about the disease and how it affects people differently. We couldn't not do something. We decided to start small and work our way up. Up to what? We don't know. Just like MS is unpredictable not knowing what will happen we decided to go with the flow. Our first year we decided to do the the walk to walk for those who can't. Since Ed was at the start of his new diagnosis, we thought that maybe one day he wouldn't be able to walk and while he still had his legs and strength we were going to move. Our team was small. Family and close friends of Ed from work. We were able to raise over $1000 that year and decided that this will be our start to bigger and better things. What the future holds for us and MS? We don't know. Not everyday can be a good day, but there is always something good in every day. It's us to up to find the good. So our journey begins.
